Parish Safeguarding

There is Level 1 Safeguarding training for all parish volunteers working with children and young people, who have not completed the recent Level 2 training.

It takes place in St Columba’s College on Thursday 27th February from 7.00 – 9.00.

Can you please give your name to your group leader if you need training and can attend as the names have to be submitted beforehand.

We again appeal to tax payers to consider gift aiding your donations. We can claim an additional 20% from the Inland Revenue, and it does not cost you anything extra. If you signed a gift aid form in the past you don’t need to do so again. Gift Aid forms are available from the Parish Office, or the main porch in St Patrick’s Church.

DIOCESAN VOCATION WEEKEND

Have you ever considered the possibility that God is calling you to the priesthood? If so, take this opportunity to gather with other men who are discerning a vocation to the priesthood. This retreat will create the time and space to help you discern God’s calling in your life.

Why support life? A round-table discussion on the future of the pro-life movement in Northern Ireland will take place in the Catholic Chaplaincy QUB. The panel, chaired by Brett Lockhart QC, features key figures in the pro-life movement including Dawn McAvoy, Dr Andrew Cupples, Patrick Gallagher, Kate Meenagh and Sarah Haire. If you are interested in learning more about the pro-life position from a variety of perspectives, this event is not to be missed. 28 Elmwood Avenue, Belfast on Wednesday 19 February at 7pm.

Are you interested in a fundraising opportunity for your community group

Portaferry’s ‘Market on the Square’ will be back on Saturday 4th April 2020. The market will be held in and around the Portaferry Market House on the first Saturday of the month from 10:00am to 1:30pm and will sell locally grown and produced food items and art and crafts.

Each market day, one local group will be given free access to the upper floor of the Market House with the intention that they provide light refreshments to shoppers in exchange for a donation. It is expected that refreshments will be provided for the duration of the market. At least one member of the group must have a Level 2 food hygiene certificate.

The Hero Project is a project run by Anthony Nolan, a charity which supports blood cancer patients who need a stem cell transplant. We are looking for retired teachers or people who have an interest, experience and/or expertise in the field of education/healthcare to provide talks and recruit students on to the stem cell register on a voluntary basis across Northern Ireland. LIVING YOUTH - ‘Stay Awake for Homelessness’ - Fundraising event @ Living Youth, 28th February 2020. 8pm to 6am, Aged 17-25.

Living Youth, along with other organisations across Ireland, are running ‘Stay Awake for Homelessness’ to raise awareness and raise vital funds for homelessness, by staying awake all night. All proceeds go towards St Patrick's Mercy Door Soup Kitchen and Morning Star House.

LIVING YOUTH Summer Pilgrimage 2020 – Youth Festival at Medjugorje
