Act of Perfect Contrition

How to make an act of perfect contrition

Through an act of Perfect Contrition, you can receive the forgiveness of your sins outside of confession, even mortal sins, provided that you determine yourself to correct your life and make a firm resolution to go to sacramental confession as soon as possible, when it becomes once more available.

1. In reality, or in your mind, kneel at the foot of a crucifix and repeat: "Jesus, my God and my Saviour, in the midst of your agony you remembered me, you suffered for me, you wanted to purify me from my sins".

2. Contrition is "perfect" if you repent of your sins because you love God and you sincerely regret having offended Him and having contributed Christ's sufferings on the Cross.

3. Recite, slowly and sincerely, an act of contrition focusing on the goodness of God and your love for Jesus: "O my God, since you are so good I am sincerely repentant for having sinned against you and with the help of your grace I will no longer sin. Amen".

4. Make a firm resolution to go to sacramental confession as soon as possible.

Christmas Letter to Parishioners 2020

Dear Parishioner,

We are now into the season of Advent, the time of preparation for the birth of Jesus. We know from past experience that a large number of us enjoy the celebration of Christ’s coming and like to attend Mass on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas morning. COVID restrictions mean that there will not be the same capacity in the Church this year, so in order to facilitate everyone who wishes to attend Mass, we need to prepare in advance.

We also intend to make the Christmas Eve 6.30 pm Mass available via Camera with sound on the gable wall of the Church, so some of us can participate from the comfort of a car. Holy Communion will be distributed from the Church porch. In addition, people can attend this Christmas Eve Mass inside the Church with the usual Covid guidelines.

We will do all we can, to make it possible for all our parishioners to attend Mass this Christmas, if they so wish. All of the Masses will be available via webcam as usual. We will have Stewards in attendance at all Masses to guide you and keep you safe. Please wear a mask, sanitise your hands and keep a safe distance.

Please indicate on the form which Mass you would prefer to attend this Christmas and fill out your Name, Address, email and telephone number and the numbers attending, so we can contact you if necessary. Please return your form on or before Monday 14th December to the box marked Christmas Masses in St Patrick’s or St Cooey’s or through the parish office letterbox or return online to This email address is being protected from spambots. Thank you for your continued cooperation,

Changes for Christmas Masses

CHANGES FOR CHRISTMAS MASSES

It is with a very heavy heart that the following decision has been made.

Due to the alarming increase rate of Coronavirus , the decision has been made not to have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses inside the Church. This decision has been made for the health and safety of everyone.

The new arrangements are:

6.30pm Mass in the carpark will continue as planned.
Those parishioners who were attending 6.30pm in the Church have also been accommodated in the main car park. The 9.00pm Mass will now also be projected on the Church gable and parishioners for this Mass will also be accommodated in the main Church car park where they may sit in their cars so as not to obstruct the view of others.
Holy Communion will be distributed in the car park at 6.30pm and 9.00pm Masses.

8.30am and 10.00am Christmas Day Masses will be available by webcam only.

Christmas Eve 6.30pm and 9.00pm Masses will also be available by webcam.

Masses resume as normal in the church from Saturday 26th with vigil mass at 6.30pm.

We understand this decision may be disappointing but we hope that you understand it has been made for the Health and Safety of everyone.
